Proposal to search for a monochromatic component of solar axions using 57Fe.

چکیده
The most attractive solution of the strong CP problem is to introduce the Peccei-Quinn global symmetry which is spontaneously broken at energy scale fa [1]. Although the original axion model has been experimentally excluded, variant “invisible” axion models are still viable. Such models are referred to as hadronic [2] and Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitskǐı [3] axions. At present, these “invisible” axions are constrained by laboratory searches and by astrophysical and cosmological arguments. The well-known window for fa which escapes all the phenomenological constraints is 10–10 GeV. This window is frequently quoted because it is cosmologically interesting. Besides this, there is another window around 10 GeV for the hadronic axions. This is usually called the hadronic axion window. A careful study [4] of the window revealed that fa in the range 3 × 10–3 × 10 GeV cannot be excluded by the existing arguments, because most of them were based on the axion-photon coupling which is the least known parameter among those describing the low energy dynamics of the hadronic axions. In addition, it is argued that fa around 10 GeV is desirable to explain the eeγγ + / ET event in the CDF experiment [5]. Furthermore, a recent paper indicates that axion might be a hot

A proposal to search for a monochromatic component of solar axions using Fe
A new experimental scheme is proposed to search for almost monochromatic solar axions, whose existence has not been discussed heretofore. The axions would be produced when thermally excited Fe in the sun relaxes to its ground state and could be detected via resonant excitation of the same nuclide in a laboratory. A detailed calculation shows that the rate of the excitation is up to order 10 eve...
متن کاملSearch for solar axions with mass around 1 eV using coherent conversion of axions into photons
A search for solar axions has been performed using an axion helioscope which is equipped with a 2.3-m long 4T superconducting magnet, a gas container to hold dispersion-matching gas, PIN-photodiode X-ray detectors, and a telescope mount mechanism to track the sun. A mass region around ma = 1eV was newly explored. From the absence of any evidence, analysis sets a limit on axion-photon coupling c...

A search for solar axions has been performed using an axion helioscope which is equipped with a 2.3m-long 4T superconducting magnet, PIN-photodiode X-ray detectors, and a telescope mount mechanism to track the sun. In addition, a gas container to hold dispersion-matching gas has been developed and a mass region up to ma = 0.27 eV was newly explored. From the absence of any evidence, analysis se...
متن کاملExperimental Search for Solar Axions
A new technique has been used to search for solar axions using a single crystal germanium detector. It exploits the coherent conversion of axions into photons when their angle of incidence satisfies a Bragg condition with a crystalline plane. The analysis of approximately 1.94 kg.yr of data from the 1 kg DEMOS detector in Sierra Grande, Argentina, yields a new laboratory bound on axion-photon c...
متن کاملA Search for the Resonant Absorption of Solar Axions by Atomic Nuclei
A search for resonant absorption of solar axions by Fe and Tm targets was performed. The Si(Li) detector placed inside a low-background setup was used to detect the γ-quanta appearing from the de-excitation of the low-lying nuclear levels of Fe and Tm (14.4 keV and 8.41 keV correspondingly): A+Ntarget → N∗ target +γ. The obtained data allowed us to set the new upper limits on the axion mass val...
